I finally did it and got through to the end - whew! I really enjoyed the whole process and even though I may not use all the tools at least I have an idea of what they are and won't look so 'stupid' when a patron asks a question. The challange in the whole process was finding the time to spend exploring and trying things out while at work and while at home, but well worth the effort. Thanks for putting this together and making me 'sweat it out' - now bring on the prize!

Got myself an account and am ready to begin walking around with earbuds hanging down, laughing at inappropriate times, and getting so involved in a story that I drive to my destination without any recollection of where I've been! I listened to a sample of 'Angels and Demons' by Dan Brown that everyone has told me is much better than 'DaVinci Code'. I think I will use my MP3 for music more than books as I tend to wander when driving, however it might be a good incentive to get back on the treadmill! All in all a very cool experience and looking forward to "reading".

Podcast Lesson #21

Having trouble with this one - can get to the Podcast sites and see all that is available, and there is a lot!, however my laptop's sound card is ailing and will not let me hear the podcast. I did see some things I would like to subcribe to like Science Friday on NPR via Yahoo Podcast - I always learn the most initeresting things when I am home every 3rd Friday. Tried to do the RSS but when I clicked on subscribe it took me right to Yahoo's tool and I also did not see the 'rss' symbol. Guess I have to review that lesson! I also wnet to Podcast.net and typed in 'libraries' in the serach, then explored Library Channel which is a series of podcasts from Arizona State University's library - interesting stuffl. Also saw references to Opal which I have used with the Leadership Group for on-line meetings with my boss. I did have my husband do a podcast 'listen' on his computer so I did hear a sample. I'll try again at work.

Got in without a problem so far; can easily see where you could spend a lot of time exploring here. Found the video about the Northern Lights and liked #3 the best for color ranges. Let's see if I can do the post-thing.

Web Tools #19 Lesson

Went to the personal organization site since that's what I need the most ;-) and found the #1 winner (HipCal) to already have been gobbled up by another planning service that is not free - Plaxo; then went to the #2 winner (Planzo) and saw that they too could be ripe for 'gobbling' as they are in "beta" mode as well. Proves that the world of web tools changes in a blink of an eye. Hard to keep up for us 'old folks' - I like my paper calendar!

For some reason it would not allow me to post directly to the blog, would not recoginze my blog name. Hmmmm. This was fun and would use at home.
From SohoWriter Test: My son and wife and my 18 month old grandughter Kaitlyn went to Atlantic Beach (NC) for a week of fun in the sun. We had a whole week of 80 degree weather and ate lots of good seafood! Grandpa took tons of pictures and Grandma got a tan! Very relaxing, no access to the internet (yeah) so got behind on L2.0. Not a problem will catch up and get that MP3 player! E

Well, that was a bit of a challange as I could not get my blog to post to the Favorites page; I was having trouble finding the (|) symbol as it looks like (:) on my keyboard. I was trying everything including l, I, i, L and not getting the results. As a last resort I used the (:) in the upper right and bingo! I then posted a couple of titles to the Favorite Books page. But in all the testing I created "quilterbee PB" and shared it with Helene Blowers (read only) - now what! will it stay there forever?? Will I be floating out in (well not floating since it's PB - glomping maybe) Wiki-land forever? Stay tuned!

Wiki, wiki, wiki, who's got the wiki!

Back at it again and took a delightful trip out to the land of wiki's. Certainly is a useful tool for interaction among viewers (although there are some people out there who need to get a life and a sunnier attitude!) and I throughly enjoyed visiting the Bull Run Library wiki. They made the visit special by having a "welcome PLCMC Learning 2.0" message - very nice and I felt that I had to make a comment. It would be nice to create a wiki to gather comments about our three building projects that are beginning to get organized - HG, SC, and CA; the public may feel more comfortable entering comments than showing up at a meeting. Time speeds by and if they have a way to make comments at 3 AM, then we should give them the space. On to the PBWiki lesson.

Thoughts on Library 2.0

I had read these articles before and now with my expanded knowledge, they begin to make more sense. Not so much the last 3, but the concept in Michael Stephens "Into a new world of librarianship" that the Librarian 2.0 will be more to all including staff and users. The phrase that sticks with me is "Librarian 2.0 also listens to staff and users when planning, tells the stories of successes and failures, learns from both, celebrates those successes, allows staff time to play and learn, and never stops dreaming about the best library services." That's what PLCMC is embarking on with Learning 2.0. However we should also heed Rick Anderson's comment in "Away from Icebergs" that "no profession can survive if it throws its core principles and values overboard in response to every shift in the zeitgeist. However, it can be equally disastrous when a profession fails to acknowledge and adapt to radical, fundamental change in the marketplace it serves." PLCMC needs to beaware and not go down that slippery slope.

Interesting site, tracking 54.2 million blogs when I visited on Saturday afternoon. Explored a bit and was annoyed by all the flashing commercial stuff on the right side of the screen. The video intro about the upgraded version was very informative but it kept stalling and timing out - too much traffic at UC I guess. The one thing I did notice when I did a search here, is that some people have more time on their hands then they should! I have other things I'd rather do that put my daily or hourly thoughts out in the blogoshpere for strangers to read! My perception only.

I found the RSS and newsfeeds to not be too bad. I had read twice (and printed) the 'betterdays' tutorial so it made sense to click on Add and do the copy/post thing. But to understand how to put all the lessons into my L2.0 checklist I had to call on human help from a staff member! Thankfully there was someone who could lead me down the path. Whew! I'm hoping things get a little easier and don't tax my feeble brain too much more!

I'm back for my second try. So far it's been pretty easy and the knowledge of having a place to put my thoughts is kind of cool! Uh-oh, I've just given readers a hint at my age! I'm looking forward to Lesson #3 - only 21 more to go for that MP3 ;-).
